 Basic Life Support (BLS) is a set of emergency procedures that includes the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). BLS is typically performed by trained medical professionals or bystanders until advanced medical care can be provided. 

 The Heartsaver First Aid course from the American Heart Association (AHA) teaches people how to provide first aid and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in an emergency. The course is intended for people with little or no medical training who need a card for work, regulatory, or other requirements
